Who We Serve
Individuals, couples, teens, young adults, families, and parents.
What We Help With
ANXIETY & DEPRESSION
Clients at Core counseling often find relief from by learning to identify situations or thoughts that trigger anxiety, how they experience anxiety in their bodies and learning how to calm their bodies and minds, and regain a sense (or discover) a sense of peace, balance and focus Cognitive Behavioral therapy and mindfulness training are often effective in being learning to reduce anxiety and regain a sense of effectiveness.
Depression, like anxiety, shows up in many different forms for many different reasons. Counseling can help clients find relief from symptoms by learning to identify negative thought patterns, identifying negative core beliefs and learning strategies to challenge and change those beliefs, creating neuroplastic changes in the brain that open up new perspectives and creativity.
TRAUMA
Many people experience distressing life events, or an accumulation of “traumas” throughout the course of their lives. Often, people who suffer from complex trauma cannot point to a single or identifiable traumatic event, as can those who meet the criteria for Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, the accumulation of difficult, stressful events over time takes a toll physically and psychologically, often resulting in a range of symptoms including: hyperarousal, disturbances in cognition, intrusive memories, anxiety, panic, depression, difficulty with interpersonal relationships, and more. At Core Counseling, we often work with and treat people who suffer from complex trauma through a variety of approaches, tailored to each individual’s needs.
GRIEF & LOSS
Learning to cope with grief, which often goes unrecognized, is essential to every person. Grief often leaves people feeling alone and isolated. Counseling can help people learn to understand the difference between healthy and unhealthy grief, and find needed support.
ADJUSTMENT
Individuals (and families) can experience feelings of sadness, hopelessness, loss and physical symptoms in the face of life transitions or challenges, including moving, divorce or separation, new job or starting college. Even when transitions are positive - marriage, addition of a new family member by birth or adoption - learning to navigate change can feel overwhelming. Counseling can help individuals focus on strengths and positive qualities, build resilience and foster healthy self-esteem, and reaffirm healthy choices.
HEALTH & LIFESTYLE ISSUES
Many people strive to live a healthy lifestyle but are suffering physically and/or mentally. At Core Counseling, we offer health coaching and counseling to help people make connections between health behaviors, mental health and overall well-being. Health coaching and specific counseling techniques can help people make lasting changes that help alleviate or eliminate symptoms and create lasting change.
RELATIONSHIP ISSUES
Many (if not most) couples and families today experience challenges on multiple fronts: effective discipline, communication, stress, parenting styles, divorce adjustment and blended families, gaming addiction, new baby, financial problems, chronic illness, to name a few. Core counseling strives to help couples and families learn relationship skills to face challenges and discover love, forgiveness and companionship.
LIFE TRANSITIONS
The transition into adulthood brings a unique set of challenges — navigating identity, relationships, independence, career choices, and the pressure to “have it all figured out.” Many young adults struggle with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, or unresolved issues from childhood that resurface during this formative time. At Core Counseling, we support young adults as they explore who they are, what they value, and how they want to move forward. Through evidence-based therapies like CBT, EMDR, and mindfulness, we help clients develop emotional regulation, clarify goals, and build the resilience needed for a healthy, meaningful adult life.
Evidence Based Solutions
After we conduct a compassionate analysis of a client’s “core” identity, he or she benefits from our extensive knowledge and integration of…
EMDR
(Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
EDMR is a type of integrative psychotherapy that helps clients process difficult or traumatic memories. Originally developed as a treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder, EMDR has proven helpful in treating a range of issues such as anxiety, panic, grief, pain, addictions and body dysmorphic disorder. You can find more information here.
CBT
(COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY)
CBT focuses on the connection between thoughts, feelings and actions, and aims at helping clients become more aware of negative thought patterns that influence behavior. Our therapists also use DBT-informed practices.
IFS
(INTERNAL FAMILY SYSTEMS)
IFS is a therapeutic approach based on the idea that our minds are made up of distinct “parts” — each with its own thoughts, emotions, and roles. Some parts may hold pain from the past, while others try to protect us from further harm. IFS helps clients identify and understand these parts, reduce internal conflict, and reconnect with their core Self — the calm, compassionate inner leader that fosters healing. This gentle, evidence-based method is especially effective for those dealing with trauma, anxiety, or deeply rooted emotional patterns.
TNM
(TRAUMA NO MORE)
Trauma No More (TNM) is a trauma-informed therapy model designed to help individuals process and heal from distressing or overwhelming life experiences. TNM integrates elements of EMDR, cognitive restructuring, and somatic awareness to address trauma at both the emotional and physiological levels. By creating a safe and structured space for clients to explore difficult memories, TNM helps reduce the intensity of trauma responses, increase emotional regulation, and restore a sense of control and well-being. This approach is especially effective for individuals with complex trauma or those who have not found relief through traditional talk therapy alone.
HEALTH COACHING
Health coaching uses evidence-based interventions and strategies to help clients make behavioral and lifestyle changes in support of health goals. Health coaching often works in conjunction with physicians’ recommendations for lifestyle changes.
